Pasco, WA- Columbia Basin College has named its first student body president as 2009-2010 Alumnus of the Year.
James Watts is a graduate of the class of 1957. A high school drop out, Watts says his teachers at CBC went out of their way to help him succeed. "It was like a family effort, and the amount of assistance I got from staff and faculty here was just amazing," Watts says.
After graduating, Watts went on to become one of the most influential labor leaders in the Tri-Cities. He negotiated a merger between the Nucleonics Alliance and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.
Watts has also been active in TRIDEC, the United Way, the Cancer Center, and CBC. His two sons and two granddaughters are also CBC graduates, and he has another grandson now attending the college.
