ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University begins a new academic year and the fall quarter Wednesday with a busy schedule and record-breaking enrollment.
On the first day of classes, the Ellensburg campus will open two new buildings, a residence hall for freshman that is green friendly and a new aviation building.
In October, the school will welcome comedian Bill Cosby to campus. They will also celebrate their new university president with an inauguration ceremony later in the year.
CWU starts the new academic year with 1660 new freshman, about a hundred more than last year. The total number of students for the university's campus and multiple centers is 10,607, an increase of almost 700 from 2008.
The university credits this rise to both their expanded recruitment efforts and a growing desire for many to go back to school in light of the current economic situation.
