KENNEWICK, Wash-- The Kennewick Police Department's new high-tech license plate reader has made its first bust.
A patrol officer was driving in the area of Hood and Fisher when the reader picked up the license plate of a stolen car. Turns out it was a car stolen from Spokane airport police.
No arrests have been made, but KPD says they're glad to see it paying off.
"It's exciting to know it's working, it's benefiting us," says officer Shirrel Veitenheimer. "Obviously in the future, we're hoping to maybe get something actually rolling with suspects in it, but it's definitely a good tool."
The cameras were installed back in July. If you have any information on the stolen car, contact police.
