Toppenish dealing with third gang shooting of September

Posted: Updated:

TOPPENISH--A 15-year-old boy is recovering Sunday after being shot in the foot.

Police say it's the third gang-related shooting in Toppenish this month.

This time, it was a drive-by shooting.  It happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night on the 400 block of South Alder Street.

The suspects drove off in a silver car.

Police don't have many other leads, partly because the victim and three potential witnesses aren't talking.

Police say they're all suspected gang members.

Local leaders say the violence affects more than those involved.

"A parishioner in our church was sharing this morning how she's living in fear," Pastor Frank East, Hope of the Nations Church, said.  "I think that's the way a lot of our community is [thanks to] a very small percentage of our community and the things that they're doing."

East is part of the Toppenish Community Safety Network.

They're trying to organize block watches to make the city a safe place again.

If you have any information about the shooting, call Toppenish PD.
