Prosser wineries bringing in people from all over Washington
Workers at the Port of Benton say Prosser could soon be in the center of the wine industry.
"We're so proud we can't even believe it half the time," Port of Benton Executive Director Scott Keller said. "In 7 years the investment's here around 30 million dollars. We've got 14 wineries, they're all doing really well. It's a beautiful place and are just about another 17 acres to the south here that hopefully we can just keep going with the wine theme."
The first winery in the village was built in the mid 80's. Since then it's grown to 32-acres of wineries that see about 1600 people a day
"The whole entire area has just grown and it's a destination," Gamache Vintner's Winery worker Vickie Kitzke said. I was telling my husband probably 8- percent of the people on busier weekends are from the west side, so people are getting the idea that this is fun over here and it's a destination place to come."
