YAKIMA, Wash. -- The long-time executive director of Yakima's Opportunities Industrialization Center is stepping down. In a statement released Friday Henry Beauchamp said he's retiring for health reasons.
Beauchamp is well known for his 30 plus year run as Executive Director of OIC. The non-profit advocates for human services, economic development and affordable housing. Many people in Yakima use OIC for job training and placement, as well.
"And throughout the years it's his vision that has made it as great and as um helpful if you will to this community. Thousands of people have stepped through those doors," said Ester Huey, longtime friend and colleague.
Huey also said it's Beauchamp's wisdom and charisma that helped bring funding to the area through OIC.
As of Friday afternoon, OIC has not announced how they will go about filling the position of executive director once Beauchamp leaves.
