9-1-1 or non emergency numbers won't answer text messages
If you send a text rather than call 9-1-1, you won't get an answer or any help.
We talked with Benton County Emergency Service workers today and they say texting will get you nowhere. In fact they recently had someone send a text message to a non emergency number and police couldn't read it or do anything about it.
Workers tell us it's because the equipment to handle emergency situations is simply too old.
"The problem is that our 911 technology, which is tied into the non emergency number, is dated back to the 1960s, and we are not able to respond or process text messages at this time,"
