Sunnyside hopes to reopen community center

SUNNYSIDE--It's been about a year since budget constraints closed the Sunnyside Community Center.  Now, city leaders say it may be reopened.

The Sunnyside City Council and Interim City Manager Jim Bridges met Saturday to discuss the city's goals and the 2010 budget, and the outlook is actually pretty good.

They're not looking at any cuts and might even be able to bring back some services.

But, there are still plenty of questions that need answering.

"What role will the community center play if we reopen it?" Mayor Pablo Garcia asked.  "What kind of activities are we going to have in it, how is it going to be used by the community?  Are we going to be able to find a viable partner [to help share costs]?"

Garcia said improving city roads is another priority.

The interim city manager is crafting a preliminary budget based off Saturday's meeting.  That budget's expected to be unveiled in two weeks.
