Right now we know field trips will remain suspended at Eastern State Hospital and new policies and procedures will be assessed by a review panel this month. This comes after Phillip Paul escaped from a field trip several weeks ago.
Today we talked with the Spokane County Sheriff. He has been asked by the governor and agent secretary Susan Dreyfus to sit on the panel that will craft new procedures for the hospital which will determine who should be allowed on field trips or if anyone from the hospital should be allowed on them at all.
"I hope to see happen that public safety will be one of the things that are thought of as an over arching philosophy rather than just focusing on the treatment aspects," Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said.
The panel will start working on the review later this month and is expected to have it completed by December.
