YAKIMA, Wash. - The city council has a busy agenda Tuesday night with presentations from both the fire and police departments.
During the City of Yakima media briefing Monday morning, the police chief updated the public on the efforts of the summer gang emphasis patrols.
Mayor Dave Edler lead this week's meeting and believes the results show the benefits of having more staff on duty.
"I think that the significance of the emphasis patrols for me has always been that if we put police officers on the street, crime goes down," he said.
The mayor also said he was glad federal funding next year would bring more officers to the city. The total costs for the emphasis patrols this summer were less than the addition of one full-time officer.
