Bill making changes to state Medicaid program could have side effects

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, Wash.-- State Senate bill 5892 aims to save the state money but it's also raising a lot of eyebrows.

Its goal is to reduce the cost for the state run Medicaid program.

It states doctor's must prescribe generic drugs before name brand drugs if your prescriptions are paid for through Medicaid.

It started off with good intentions to save money, but some are saying the bill is taking vital decisions about prescription drugs out of doctor's hands.

The bill is up for public comment until the end of the month.
