Top wine buyers tour Washington State wine country
BENTON CITY, Wash-
Wine is big business in this area and today forty of the country's most influential wine buyers were right here in the Tri-Cities.
But it wasn't all wine-sipping fun for today's guests, they were soon put to work along-side staff at the Col Solare winery to better understand the wine making process.
Executive Director of the Washington Wine Commission, Robin Pollard, says the buyers were surprised by the great value of these wines.
"They're very impressed, they just keep repeating what incredible quality of wines that we're producing for such a great value compared to wines from other parts of the country."
Buyers in the group included representatives from the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Wolfgang Puck restaurants and the president of the prestigious Guild of Sommeliers. Combined, this group of buyers represents $400 million in annual purchasing power.
The group was in Walla-Walla yesterday and will be in Yakima tomorrow before their tour concludes in Seattle on Thursday.
