A rule to lower greenhouse gasses could soon take effect
A couple dozen people from companies all around the area came the Richland Field Office of Ecology today. Representatives tell us Ecology has worked on the proposed rule to lower greenhouse gasses since 2008. The rule explains that you must report how much gas you emit if you own a fleet of vehicles that put out at least 25-hundred metric tons of greenhouse gases annually. Also, you must report a building or factory that emits 10 thousand metric tons.
"I think they will be intimidated at first, but once we start working through the process and letting them know what this looks like.. For example, for a truck driver you have to burn through about 240-thousand gallons of gasoline a year to have to report," program development section manager of the Air Quality program Sarah Rees said.
Most trucks don't emit that much gas each year, but for those who do, the proposed rule is expected to be in effect by early 2010.
