A new breast cancer detection system is at KGH

Posted: Updated:

KGH is the first to get the breast imaging system, which is known in the medical community as an ARIA system.
The system takes three dimensional images of the breast tissue and helps detect breast cancer much sooner than ever before, especially for those with dense breast tissue.

Nearly 50 percent of women have dense tissue, which makes it harder for doctors to see cancer growth. KGH and AIT workers say with this new technology that will no longer be a problem.

"My feeling is that anything that can improve detection will make a huge difference for both the patient and the medical community," Advanced Imaging Technologies Director of Communication's Stephanie Hartwig said.

Workers also say they are proud to have the new system for breast cancer awareness month.
