1987 Murder Case Delayed Again

Posted: Updated:
Pasco, WA- A 22-year-old murder case in the Tri-Cities will turn 23 before it goes to trial.

Vicente Ruiz had been scheduled to go on trial next month for the execution-style slayings of five men in a Pasco body shop in 1987.

But today Franklin County Judge Cameron Mitchell reluctantly postponed the trial to give defense attorneys more time to prepare.

Because of scheduling conflicts with attorneys, witnesses, and other upcoming trials, the soonest opening is six months away.

Ruiz has been in county jail for the past three years following his arrest in Mexico.

Ruiz today signed a waiver to his right to a speedy trial, and judge Mitchell told the defense team he expects this to be the final delay.
