NACHES, Wash. - Gov. Chris Gregoire toured the area around the Naches landslide on Saturday.
Gregoire flew by helicopter over the slide that blocked State Route 410 and diverted the Naches River, and was briefed on repair efforts at Naches Middle School. She was accompanied by state Transportation Department Secretary Paula Hammond, Washington National Guard Gen. Timothy Lowenberg and two state legislators.
The huge slide on the east side of the Cascades blocked the road and river last Sunday. Highway 410 is expected to remain closed at Naches through the winter.
