Yakima Kennel Club hosts agility trials

UNION GAP--Do you struggle to teach your dog how to play fetch?  Well, prepare to get jealous.

The Yakima Kennel Club hosted agility trials this weekend at Fullbright Park in Union Gap.

Hundreds of dogs jumped, ran and weaved for that prized blue ribbon.

So, what's their secret?

One trainer tells us, you just have to be nice to your pooch.

"It's all about the relationship between you and your dog, and that's for any training that you do," Craig French said.  He's been training dogs for 37 years and is a former American Kennel Club judge.  "[The secret] is positive motivation at the moment they make the decision for the desired behavior."

French's dog Kibby was not the only one getting a work out.  The 64-year-old French ran three other dogs through the course in a span of about 20 minutes!

French said it typically takes at least a year of training for most dogs to be ready to compete in agility trials.
