YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Toppenish man convicted of gunning down a convenience store clerk has been sentenced to nearly 39 years in prison.
Eriberto Gonzalez was sentenced in Yakima County Superior Court this afternoon.
Detectives said Gonzalez shot Eziquel Reyes four times outside a Conoco station in March 2007, after he suspected Reyes of having an affair with his, then girlfriend.
KNDO spoke to Reyes' family afterwards, they were disappointed by today's sentencing.
"We're hoping for life... a life sentence, but it didn't happen and we're pretty shocked," said Naomi Belderas, victim's sister.
Belderas is still happy the ordeal is over.
The judge called Gonzalez's crime "senseless and brutal" and said he was given the maximum sentence legally possible.
