Yakima gets more scantily clad coffee baristas

YAKIMA--A new coffee shop in Yakima is generating some buzz.

Deja Brew Espresso opened a few days ago on Washington Avenue, where the Bean Pod and Heart of America Espresso once were.

What has some talking though are the baristas' outfits.  The workers wear bustiers among other costumes.

You might remember the city council changed its indecent exposure laws in June to make wearing see-through clothing or clearly visible underwear a misdemeanor.

The owner tells KNDO you won't see that here.

"My girls are fully dressed:  nylons, bustieres, we spend a lot of money on our costumes, nothing spared," Juanita Sanchez said.  "They're paid to look beautiful.  We don't have to flash a little bit more to get that extra buck."

Sanchez used to work at another costume-themed coffee stand in town.  She said she's made sure her employees dress more conservatively than at similar stands.

Sanchez also said it's not just men digging the outfits; according to her, about half of her customers are women.
