Teen injured in drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--An 18-year-old man recovering after he's targeted in a drive-by shooting.  Police believe the shooting is gang-related.

At around 10:10 p.m. Halloween night, shots rang out near the intersection of Castlevale and Powerhouse Roads.

Police only found shell casings at the scene, but in the meantime, an 18-year-old man arrived at a local hospital.

He'd been shot once in the leg by someone riding in a dark-colored sedan.

News of the shooting came as a surprise to neighbors.  This is an area not associated with gang violence.

Deborah Danielson lives near where the shooting occured.  It may make her think twice about going out at night.

"Is it safe for us to go out there and even walk on that pathway now if there's drive-by shootings in this area?" Danielson asked.  "Because this has not happened before that I can remember."

Danielson says the neighborhood did see more kids than usual trick-or-treating Saturday, but there were no signs of trouble until the shooting.

The teen's injury is not considered life-threatening.

The only witness was a woman walking with the victim.  She was not injured.
