As drivers prepare for the winter weather with studded tires and chains, the Washington State Department of Transportation has created a guide of what you need to have inside your car to prepare for changing conditions outside.
The guide breaks down what you need to do before you leave your home as well as what you will need on the road. It also includes the different levels of traction advisories plus what to do when there are delays and closures on the passes.
WSDOT has two categories for preparing your car, basic winter safety and vehicle break down.
Items like an ice scraper or snowbrush as well as jumper cables are in the first category. Other items like a blanket, gloves, flashlight, water, first aid kit and emergency cash are suggested in the event that you will need to stay in your car for an extended period of time.
