Yakima water treatment plant recognized for excellence
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The City of Yakima’s drinking water treatment plant has been presented a Bronze Certificate of Achievement from the Washington State Department of Health as part of the DOH Treatment Optimization Program.
The award recognizes outstanding performance by Yakima’s plant in meeting water quality standards over the last 3 years that are even more stringent than current regulatory requirements.
"Our staff at the treatment plant has done an incredible job," said Water/Irrigation Manager Dave Brown. "They have worked very hard to take the drinking water quality for our customers to a whole new level. It’s no small task to consistently meet the higher standards required to win a TOP award. They deserve all of the credit," said Brown.
Yakima’s water treatment plant is located about 7 miles west of the city along the Naches River. The plant is part of a system that also includes 3 deep groundwater wells. Yakima’s drinking water system has been ranked among the safest in the nation for several years according to statistics collected by state and federal monitoring agencies.
