Local Police Mourn Slain Lakewood Officers

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- It's a possibility our men and women in blue hope never becomes a reality.

But now comes grieving from our local police as they mourn not only their fallen fellow officers, but for some, also their friends. Richland police Capt. Mike Cobb and numerous others in the department knew Lakewood Sgt. Mark Renninger from his work as a swat instructor.

Kennewick police Ofc. Michelle Pitts and Cpl. Matt Newton knew Lakewood Ofc. Greg Richards from their time at the police academy. Now both are gone, and everyone is still in shock.

Many officers from Richland police have requested to attend the memorial in Lakewood next week, including one Richland officer to play Taps, just as he did in the memorial for Seattle police officer, Timothy Brenton.
