Missing hunter found 'in fine shape'

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - Searchers have found a Tukwila elk hunter who had been reported missing in the mountains of central Washington.

Yakima County sheriff's Sgt. Judd Towell says 62-year-old Dwight Bates was found Wednesday afternoon "in fine shape" and was skinning an animal when he was located. He was found west of Yakima in the Nile Valley area.

Yakima County had assisted Kittitas County authorities in an air and ground search. The Kittitas County sheriff's office says relatives reported Bates missing Monday when they didn't hear from him after he'd called to say road conditions were poor.
