Naturalization workshops can help would-be citizens

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--Becoming an U.S. citizen is not an easy task, but prospective Americans don't have to go it alone.

That was the message of Saturday's Naturalization Information Session workshop for would-be citizens.

Roughly ten people learned about the naturalization test and what they'd need to do to become citizens.

Organizers had hoped for a better turnout.  They think many people, even legal immigrants, fear they'll get in trouble for showing up.

That's not the case.

"It's not a big problem, go ahead and apply.  Come in and see us and we will take care of all the issues in most cases."

If you missed out Saturday, you can visit the CIS office at the Yakima Diocese on Tieton Drive.

CIS will hold similar workshops in Wenatchee and Moses Lake in the near future.
