KENNEWICK, Wash. - The first snowfall of the season has caused many accidents in the area. State Patrol says there have been more than 50 accidents since the snowfall yesterday afternoon. This includes Franklin, Benton and Walla Walla Counties. The majority of the accidents happened on I-82 and State Routes 395 and 240.
State Patrol says these accidents are common especially during the first snowfall of the season. The reason being is because many people fail to adjust their driving to winter driving. Trooper Bond says there are a few things drivers need to keep in mind when driving in the snow. "Drivers need to basically allow enough time to get to their destination. They need to reduce their speed. They need to increase their following distance and they need to allow enough time to break for stopping distance," said Trooper Bond.
Trooper Bond says there have been less accidents today since the Department of Transportation applied a deicer on the roads which has improved the road conditions.
