Check receipts to make sure you're getting full discounts
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- If you're rushing around shopping this holiday season, you could be missing out on deal if you don't check your receipts. Not all items always ring up at the right sales price.
Many shoppers just buy items, know the final price is cheaper than the regular price, but don't check their receipts to see if they're getting a full discount. Researchers say prices in the stores' computers and on the shelves sometimes don't match up.
If you don't take a close look at your receipt, you may end up paying more. If you see it and point it out, stores will usually honor the lower of the two. Some will even give you a discount for pointing it out.
Also, stores are legally required to position a price display so that you can see it while checking out. If you know you're not good at keeping track of receipts, follow along carefully on that display.
