Surveillance footage of arrest and new details in Mattawa triple homicide
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Bail is set at $2.5 million for the man accused of a triple homicide in Mattawa. Now there are new details and surveillance footage of the arrest.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office released an eight page probable cause statement Thursday. In the document, a detailed count of the murders as investigated by detectives and told by the suspect himself.
J. Guadalupe Martinez-Lopez was the man arrested Tuesday night in Sunnyside at the end of a crime spree that police say included three murders. It started in Mattawa, the probable cause documents say Martinez-Lopez killed three men, he told police he killed them because they had raped a girl.
Thursday detectives watched the surveillance footage, SWAT sweeping-in on Martinez-Lopez as he was sitting down to eat, shortly after nine o'clock Tuesday night.
Detectives credit good communication between agencies as to how they could catch Martinez-Lopez so quickly.
"As luck would have it our suspect fell literally into his lap over in Sunnyside and they made the arrest," said Under sheriff John Turley, Grant County Sheriff's Office.
Martinez-Lopez told police he robbed a Sunnyside convenience store at gun-point to pay for the meal at the restaurant where police arrested him. He also admitted to several other armed robberies Sunnyside, Basin City and Grant County.
Martinez-Lopez was arraigned Thursday, his next court appearance will be December 22nd, at that time he'll enter a plea.
