YAKIMA--Thieves hit two Yakima mini-marts, but only one robber makes away with cash, because one clerk fought back.
As clerk of a mini-mart, the threat of robbery is in your job description.
Fighting off the robbers is typically not recommended.
But at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, the clerk at A1 Gas and Groceries in Yakima did just that.
Watching the surveillance video, we see the clerk serving some customers when a Hispanic man, about five feet seven inches and roughly 140 pounds, walks in.
He leaves, then the customers leave.
But, the man's still loitering outside, so the clerk goes to check it out.
Then our suspect walks back in and attacks the clerk with a small knife.
The clerk fights back and easily overpowers the much smaller man, driving him right back out the door.
The suspect takes off and is long gone by the time police arrive.
Just hours earlier, another robbery at the Liberty Oil on Fruitvale Boulevard.
There, two men wearing ski masks and blue shirts came in and demanded money. The clerk ran away.
Police say the suspects left a knife and some cash behind. Police didn't say how much money the thieves took.
Witnesses say the suspects in the Fruitvale Boulevard robbery left in a green Acura.
