Runaway thieves fired shots at Yakima Sheriff Deputy, suspects still wanted

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.- Yakima Sheriff Deputies are on Heightened alert after a deputy was shot at while pursuing two alleged thieves.

Two males allegedly stole a snow blower near 35th Avenue and Tieton Avenue heading towards West Valley. YSO deputies started following the pick-up truck, trying to pull them over.

At 96th avenue and Tieton Avenue, the suspects fired half a dozen shots at the deputy's car. Deputies and neighbors in the area say this is alarming.

"No respect for anything or anybody, if they shot at an officer then they'll shoot at a citizen so people need to be aware and cautious," said Sgt. John Durand.

"Never thought that would happen, you expect that down near Davis but not here," said Brittany McSharry, who lives in West Valley.

Because of the heavy fog, deputies were not able to read the license plate and are asking for your help.

They're looking for two male suspects. They were driving a pick-up truck described as a late 80's to early 90's Ford F-150, dark in color. No suspect description has been given and the deputy fired at was not injured.

If you have any information on this shooting, call the Yakima Sheriff's Office.
