WASHINGTON D.C.-- In a historic vote, the U.S. Senate passed the health care overhaul bill early this morning. Senators voted 60-39 along party lines to pass the legislation just after 7:00 a.m. ET.
Democrats needed only a 51-vote majority to pass the final measure, but they got 60, with late hold-outs Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson approving the final measure and its accompanying amendments.
The legislation now moves to a Senate-House conference to reconcile their two bills, before President Obama signs the bill onto law.
