Holiday Crowds Still in Stores

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash;--Even though Christmas is over, holiday shoppers are still crowding up stores in the Tri-Cities.  It's these crowds that have led to nearly a 4% national increase in retail sales from this time last year, according to Mastercard spending reports. And retailers here in the Tri-Cities are noticing an increase in sales as well.

"We're from Lewiston, we came here yesterday and it was unbearable we had to get a hotel and decided we would come back today and hope there was less people here cause it was a weekday," says Manager of Ben Bridge Jewelers Janelle Harvey.

This increase in sales is great for a struggling economy but it is causing huge crowds at local shopping centers, and making it hard for after Christmas bargain hunters to enjoy themselves.

"We're from Lewiston, we came here yesterday and it was unbearable we had to get a hotel and decided we would come back today and hope there was less people here cause it was a weekday," says Poppy Lytle.

You might think that the crowds today would be returning unwanted Christmas presents but nearly everyone I spoke to today said they were simply looking for the best bargain deals around.
