Struggle for Power Between the Pipes

It took the Ams a bit of time to lock in Pechursky.  In the end the Russian netminder's old team and league granted his request to leave.  So he could join the Ams... the team that drafted him earlier this year.  The question remains does this acquisition negatively affect team chemistry.

Assistant Captain Johnny Lazo said, "I don't think so at all I think the acquisition of Alex ... Will give owsley a little more rest ... So he can be better on a more consistent basis."

Head coach Jim Hiller added, "It's going to be better for him in the end. He's not going to play as much ... But he's still going to play when the game is on the line ... Whoever is going well is going to play ... And drew has certainly proven. He's got all our confidence from the first half of the season and he'll be right there in the end."

Let me throw some numbers at you about the current starting goalie in Tri-City.  Drew Owsley this season... the most wins in the W-H-L with 26.  Has played more games than any netminder at 35.  The key number minutes logged, at 2,007, ranking number one in the league.  In essence, the new addition of goalie Alex Pechursky is more like an insurance policy.

Head coach Jim Hiller said about Pechursky, "He moves really quick ... He's a really big guy ... Moves really big side to side ...  And I think once he gets comfortable he is going to be an outstanding addition ... And play really well for us."

Drew Owsley added, "I was a little bit disappointed at first ... But bob and jim called me that day ...  And pretty much explained it and it is going to make us a better team ."

Drew will use this recent transaction as motivation to improve everyday between the pipes.

Owsley said, "You know I got to step it up even more now that he's here. I got to be more consistent ... Can't have a couple bad games in a row ...   because then he is going to get his chance for sure ."
