Dog owner speaks out about alleged attack

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND. Wash; -- A woman's dog is killed after an alleged attack by a pit bull. Elinor Woehler says she and her dogs were attacked when taking a morning stroll.

Elinor divulged what happened that Thursday morning in Richland when her young dachshund, Pumpkin, was killed. She has cuts on her arms and tears in her eyes when as she reflected on that difficult time today. She says her family still has difficulty sleeping after the incident.

"It felt like we were going to be mauled to death," Elinor says while petting her dog Willow who remains close by Elinor and her husband Andrew at all times.

The investigation is now in the hands of Tri-City Animal Control. The suspect's dogs are currently placed in a 10-day quarantine as new details unfold. Moreover, Animal Control says they see this type of incident much too often.

"You do have two pet owners that love their pets and would never want to see this happen to another person's pet," Animal Control's Angela Ziler said as she pet her own four-legged friend. "At this point there are still some unanswered questions as to what happened."

We tried to talk with the other dog owner too but he was not available to comment.
Animal control tells us he admits his pit bull involved in the attack was not on a leash, but the other two dogs with him were. For that he faces an immediate $66 fine. Animal control is still investigating this case and expects to release more information soon.
