RICHLAND, Wash;-- People from all around Richland today came to the community center to share stories and celebrate Richland's 100 year anniversary.
The chair of the Richland Centennial Committee says the question he is often asked is "how are we celebrating 100 years now when we celebrated 50 a couple of years ago?"
The answer was explained at today's big kick off and celebration to declare 2010 as the Richland centennial year. As the story goes, Richland was incarnated in 1910 as a town but it was later established as a city, which abolished that original town status. The city's interesting history is why we have several different celebrations, but today, we honor 100 year's of its original incorporation.
Today also focused on the educational side of Richland. Furthermore, it was a time for the committee to reflect on how Richland has grown over the years. They will continue to plan events for the upcoming year and expect to have a big historical celebration July 4th at Howard Amon Park.
