Micah Cawley makes the move to from Assistant Mayor to Mayor
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Former Assistant Mayor Micah Cawley has made the move to mayor. The seven member Yakima City Council picks in private who they want to lead the group as mayor.
The decision was announced at Tuesday nights regular council meeting. Sitting beside Cawley is Council Member Kathy Coffey who was appointed assistant mayor. Things got heated at Thursday meeting as the newest council member Dave Ettl brought up the controversial Front Street art piece.
Cawley reflected on his first council meeting as Mayor.
"We had folks interrupting, council members interrupting, it becomes difficult when you have a motion to discuss something where it gets milled down. I feel, I have a good handle on council rules and procedures and will fit into the role with in the coming months," said Cawley.
Cawley also said council will be going on a retreat in the upcoming months, at that time they'll team build and prioritize goals for 2010. The term of mayor is two years.
