KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick City Council members selected a new mayor after former Mayor Tom Moak was defeated in the November election. In a vote of 6-1 council members elected Steve Young to represent the city. Mayor Young has been on the council for 13 months. They also elected Sharon Brown to be the new Mayor Pro-Tem.
The two plan on using team work to get things done. Mayor Young's number one issue is safety and security. "That will be our number one challenge and our number one issue we deal with all year long. Making sure we have a sufficient police force, sufficient fire protection services. The second one of course is our budget," said Mayor Young. His third challenge is preparing for the growth of Kennewick.
The City of Richland also announced their Mayor tonight. By a unanimous vote the council re-elected John Fox. This is Mayor Foxs' second term. The council also elected Ed Revell as Mayor Pro-Tem.
Mayor Young and Fox' terms will last for two years.
