Eyman gears-up to file his latest initiative aimed at controlling tax increases
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The legislative session kicks off Monday at noon, which means initiative backers will be in Olympia voicing their concerns. It just wouldn't be the legislative season if Yakima native Tim Eyman weren't involved, this year he's working on a tax control initiative.
His latest work, something called "Save the 2/3's Vote for Tax Increases."
Eyman said the initiative would require a two-thirds majority vote from legislators before taxes could be raised. Eyman also said the initiative is similar to I-601, R-49 and I-960. Eyman and his team of co-sponsors are excited to file their initiative at 10:00 a.m. sharp Monday in Olympia.
"So two hours before our legislators start picking our wallets we think that it's important to send a message that [taxes] should be an absolute last option and that's why this initiative is necessary," said Eyman.
The initiative will get a number after it's filed and the full text of the initiative will become available on the Secretary of State's Web site.
We'll be sure to keep you informed as this initiative takes shape and as it gets supporter and opponents.
