KENNEWICK. Wash;--Two people are in jail after Kennewick police have to call in the SWAT team due to outstanding warrants for an arrest.
Last night the SWAT team had to gas the home on John Day Avenue just to get one man to surrender. It started out as an undercover stake out, outside of a triplex in Kennewick last night, but quickly escalated into much more.
Police were after Robert Algi and Heidi Hughes. Both have serious arrest warrants. Officers surrounded the home waiting for both to come out. Hughes, who has a felony warrant for escape came out shortly after police arrived. Robert Algi, who has an escape warrant from the Department of Corrections, took about seven more hours to surrender. Once it reached the early hours of the morning SWAT gassed the home, causing Algi to finally surrender at around 2 a.m.
Police say both Algi and Hughes have a long history of warrants and other drug and weapon related crimes. This week they will see a judge to determine how much jail time they could face.
