What's the possibility of a large earthquake in the Mid-Columbia?

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.--  The earthquake in Haiti brings up the question, "What were to happen in the Columbia basin if we were to have one of that size?"

We talked to seismologists today, who tell us there was a 7.0 earthquake near Lake Chelan in the mid-1800s and another one in the past few hundred years near Milton Freewater.

However, our buildings are built to withstand varying degrees of quakes and engineers tell us most wouldn't have too much structural damage, but objects could still be a danger.

Engineers also say part of the tremendous damage done in Haiti was because the structures weren't built as strong as ones here.
