PASCO, Wash-- There are talks to build a new water park in Pasco near Road 100. The water park would be privately funded, meaning the builder won't team up with cities and collect your taxes to pay for it.
It's called the Bahama Bay Water Park. The project's director is a Florida man who grew up in the Tri-Cities and says a water park is one of the vital attractions the area is missing.
"They've had some good plans, but they haven't had any success with those plans because of not knowing where to build it, don't know who will get the most benefit out of it, the taxpayers not wanting to put up so much money for it," says Jim Hale, Project Director.
Hale will be in Pasco Thursday to ask the planning commission for a special use permit. There, you can come and voice your opinion. Assuming hale gets the approval, the first stage of construction would be around $8-10 million, with plans to eventually add a hotel and mini-golf park. Hale says it could realistically open summer 2012.
