YAKIMA--The victim in a Friday evening shooting on South 26th Avenue has died.
Yakima resident Luis Gonzalez died shortly before midnight, about three hours after being shot in the head.
Police were sent to the 100 block of 26th Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. There they found Gonzalez, 32, lying on the ground outside a home. He had been shot once in the head.
A witness told police he and Gonzalez were working on a car when a man approached and fired one shot.
Police did not have a suspect yet, but he is described as a husky man, roughly six feet two inches tall, wearing a light colored sweatshirt and jacket. The witness told police he believed the man left the scene in a light colored newer minivan, but he could not provide any firmer identification.
Gonzalez was a known gang member, but police have not yet declared the shooting elated to gang activity.
This is the first homicide in the city of Yakima in 2010.
