OLYMPIA, Wash;-- Governor Chris Gregoire announced today she wants all preschools for children ages three and four to be state certified, and operate under the same standards set by the Department of Early Learning.
This would include providing certified pre-kindergarten curriculum while also teaching the parents that they are their child's first and most important teacher.
The state currently oversees about 76-hundred licensed child-care facilities.
Under the proposal, more low-income parents would receive financial help on a sliding scale to send their kids to preschool. Preschool attendance would still be voluntary.
