YAKIMA, Wash. - As the Yakima School District looks to slim the budget everything is on the table. The School Resource Officer program is being looked at to save costs.

Currently, the school districts pays $380,000 that funds four officers. One for each of the high schools and one for each of the two middle schools.

"The adage of doing more with less just doesn't ring, you know you do less with less and that's what we'll be faced with the funding for a SRO program is cut," said Lt. Mike Merryman, Yakima Police Department.

Merryman said the funding for the SRO program changes year to year since the program was started back in '95. Currently, the school district is working with the city to find a way to continue the program.
