Job demand at hotel shows unemployment concerns

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Nearly six hundred people applied for eight jobs at a new hotel and maybe it shows we aren't in quite a recession proof bubble after all.

The G.M. For the new Cedar Inn and Suites says he put up the jobs on the Worksource web site and got nearly 400 hits.

Then he had an open interview and two hundred more showed up looking for a job. The huge outpouring runs similar to unemployment numbers released yesterday. Unemployment is ten percent in Franklin County and just over seven percent in Benton County, up a full percent from a year ago.

As for the hotel itself they plan to open sometime in mid-March. Now the unemployment numbers rose a full percent from December of 2008, but also from last month, meaning what might have been stable numbers are now starting to rise.
