YAKIMA--Friday marked the 37th anniversary of the United States Supreme Court legalizing abortion in the landmark Roe v. Wade case. Saturday, people in Yakima walked to protest the decision.
The Catholic Diocese of Yakima organized Saturday's Walk for Life.
Hundreds of people from churches all over the Yakima Valley walked from St. Paul's Cathedral on 12th Avenue all the way to Millennium Plaza downtown.
Walkers hope their protests against abortion will be heard.
"I think it does send a message especially to the people that aren't informed," Itzen Lucatero said. "This kind of event raises awareness."
Walkers also let balloons into the air, symbolizing unborn babies.
Thanks to sunny skies in Yakima, the walk had one of its best crowds in years.
An estimated 400 people participated.
