Law enforcement in Benton County release crime statistics
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Crime rates are mostly down again-- overall the county has a crime rate of nearly 15 crimes per thousand residents.
Richland is at 25 per thousand; Kennewick at just under 40; West Richland is at 16 per thousand, and is the only one that saw major crime rates rise to over 35 percent from 2008.
Police say crime rates could be lower if we remember not to be a target.
"We are asking for our communities in keeping their vehicles locked," says Richland Police Chief Tony Corsi. "[Also] keeping [your] homes locked, keeping all your valuables out of sight and put them in the trunk," says Corsi.
For the first time since 1997, there were no homicides in the county.
Law enforcement did stress they are being stretched thin with budgets.
