Richland city leaders make decision on recycling program

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. - Months after a community curbside recycling pilot program started, Richland city leaders have finally made a decision.  The City Council debated the recycling program for almost two hours. The council went back and forth trying to make a decision that would work best for residents. In a vote of four to three the council voted yes on the optional recycling program.

The new service fee for garbage pickup will be $16.10, which means Richland residents will pay an extra $1.13 or 7.5% a month. This fee includes weekly garbage pick up with yard waste pick up every other week. Now if you choose to participate in the recycling program you'll pay an extra $5.70 a month.  And if you choose to use the landfill it will cost you $10 per visit, but dumping yard waste will be free.

This is the first increase since 2005.
