YAKIMA, Wash. -- Wondering why so many people were in red Friday? Well, it's the annual Go Red Day to raise awareness about heart disease.
So many people are at risk for heart disease, it's actually the leading cause of death in both men and women and that's why Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center has held the first annual Healthy Heart Expo.
People from across the valley poured into Regional's auditorium to hear from local doctors, dieticians and other heart healthy experts. There were 42 vendors on hand.
Doctor Roy Gondo spoke at Friday's event.
"I would say the majority of the medical conditions I see, diabetes, hyper tension, coronary disease would be the majority of the patients I see in my clinic," said Gondo.
"I think we can always be better educated and medicine is constantly changing," said Monte Bostwick, CEO, Regional.
Bostwick said Regional may be the valley's cardiac hospital, but education and prevention plays an important role in what they do. This year's event was such a success they plan to have it again next year possibly in a larger venue.
