YAKIMA--For the first time in several years, there was some pigskin action in the Yakima Sundome.
The startup Yakima Valley Warriors held open tryouts Saturday.
About forty would-be Warriors showed up for a shot to make the team.
The Warriors came into Saturday with several players already signed and on the roster.
Their owner, Michael Mink, promises KNDO they'll have some local players in uniform at the first home game April 3.
"We'll go to the drawing board on Sunday and Monday and see what holes we need to fill," Mink said. "We'll get on the phone, call some agents up, and get some more prospects in here to fill out the roster."
Along with tryouts, Saturday was Warriors fan day. Kids got to play on the field and meet some of those prospective players.
Mink said community support is crucial if the Warriors are going to be a successful franchise.
